Runtan “Desmond” Du and his works are strongly inspired by archeology and anthropology which are in dedication of anti-discrimination and world-peace. His collections reflect upon different historical events and phenomena in order to conclude philosophical enlightenments that guide the audiences towards the ideal utopian society that he envisions. “A flawless utopian society is unachievable because of the scarcity of resources we have on this planet, but during the process of us sharing the abundance of our resources, the world gets better,” ventured by Du. His label “run tan du” debuted during Shanghai Fashion Week in 2020 with its SS21 collection and his most recent collection was showcased during NYFW in September, 2022. Du’s thesis project is based on multiple paradoxes throughout the history of humankind and he aims to translate the intertwined meanings and messages into philosophical innovations.
